Malin Uhlén, b.1989 in Värmland, is a ceramic artist who lives and works in Gothenburg. She completed her master’s in ceramic art at Konstfack, Stockholm.
In her practice, she breaks, stretches, and strains clay until it cracks or collapses, allowing imperfections to unfold rather than correcting them. These effects are central to her process, revealing the material’s character and the logic of its shifting form.
Her pieces become visual stills of growth, decay, and dissolution, resembling natural processes like stone eroding or organic matter decomposing. She reflects on ideals of permanence and stability, showing that unpredictability and irregularity hold value. In her work, collapse becomes as significant as formation.
